Overview

DAY1
Non-Cycling Day

Day1

Depart from home and arrive at Miyazaki Airport (KMI) that afternoon. After arrival, move to the hotel and spend a relaxing time preparing for cycling from the next day.

DAY2
approx. 48km

Day2

The first day has us riding from Miyazaki city, the mythology capital of Japan. We head westward to Miyakonojo City, which is famous for Japanese long bows, by entering the mountains and going through forest paths. Once we reach Miyakonojo we can rest up for the next day’s adventure.

DAY3
approx. 81km

Day3

For today, we depart from Miyakonojo and head southwest to Sakurajima, an island with a huge active volcano in the center. No worries, even though the volcano usually erupts hundreds of times a day, the eruptions do not cause any harm, though sun/cycling glasses are recommended if the ash in the air is a bit thick! Once we make through Sakurajima we take the ferry to Kagoshima City where we can call it a day.

DAY4
approx. 74km

Day4

From Kagoshima City was heading northwest and aiming for a town called Izumi. Izumi is famous for the hundreds of migrating cranes that gather in its fields every year around spring and autumn. The road to Izumi provides a good challenge through the mountains and forest of Kagoshima Prefecture. The day will end once we reach our accommodation in Izumi.

DAY5
approx. 93km

Day5

Setting out eyes onto the seas, we continue our journey west and ride through the fields and hills to reach Nagashima, a beautiful island connected to the mainland via a blue bridge. The roads of Nagashima hug the ocean from high cliffs, making the ride breathtaking. WE reach the edge of Nagasahima and catch the ferry to Amakusa, Kumamoto. WE follow the coastal roads on the western side of Amakusa island until we reach our accommodation, which will treat us with a view of a gorgeous sunset to end our day.

DAY6
approx. 70km

Day6

From Amakusa we make our way east to Kamiamakusa, the island right next to the main Amakusa island. We ride the northern route of Kamiamakusa until we hit the edge of the Amakusa islands. Towards the end of the day, the more and more islands appear as we ride through them via bridges, a beautiful way to end the day.

DAY7
approx. 55km

Day7

For our last day, we enter the Japanese mainland. We are riding along the coastal roads of Misumi area, merging into the Uto City area. The roads are beautiful and are a great way to end our multiple day tour. Once we reach Uto we continue North to the City of Kumamoto where we will will look forward to the night’s festivities.
