Niji no Matsubara Niji no Matsubara is a special national scenic spot that stretches along the coast of Karatsu Bay, and is one of the three largest pine groves in Japan. The green tunnel of 1 million black pines stretching for about 4.5 km is like an entrance to another world. The first lord of Karatsu, Terazawa Hirotaka, began planting the trees in the early 17th century to protect against wind and tide.

Kagamiyama Observatory Kagamiyama Observatory is located at an altitude of 284m and is a scenic spot where you can see the Karatsu city area, Niji no Matsubara, Karatsu Bay, and even the silhouette of Iki Island. The 4km winding road leading to the summit is a hill climb course that is very popular with cyclists.
